FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KARATE AND SMALL CIRCLE JUJITSU?

All styles of martial arts have some similarities in their movements. Karate uses more striking and kicking skills to stop an attacker. It is based on power and does not leave as much room for control. Small Circle Jujitsu is based on recognizing an attacker's weakness and taking advantage of that weakness. With Small Circle Jujitsu, you don't fight an opponent's strengths, but take advantage of weaknesses and mistakes. Small Circle gives you more options on how to handle an aggressor. It helps you develop well-rounded skills to make you confident that the techniques taught will really work.

SCJ makes you think if it makes sense then you trust and believe in the technique. Children are shown that they can achieve by trying, when a child tries they succeed. Confidence, self‑esteem, and self‑worth are some benefits‑that SCJ can give your child. Also knowing that your child has the tools to help protect them if the need arises

Yes there is a ranking system. It is totally up to the student if they choose to go through the ranking process. If all you want to do is workout and learn SCJ techniques you can or you can challenge yourself by going through the SCJ ranking system. We’ll bet you'll be glad you did.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A BLACK BELT?

Children and adults differ in times. We believe that teenagers under the age of 16 should not be able to receive their black belts in SCJ. Under the age of 16 we do have a junior black-belt rank. For adults, the ranking comes approximately every six months. There is a nine-belt ranking system with turns into a 4‑1/2 year black belt program. Once you get to black the real learning starts. This is very exciting

CAN WOMEN BENEFIT FROM SMALL CIRCLE JUJITSU?

Absolutely. We call it "street-smart jujitsu." SCJ efficiently teaches you how to recognize mistakes and weakness that come out during an altercation You're taught not to use strength against a larger person but to use the efficient skills you are taught.

CAN CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM SMALL CIRCLE JUJITSU?

With our children's program, the benefits are great. Children develop hand-eye coordination, balance, and the ability to succeed. They are also taught choices, so they do not have to strike out and hurt someone. They can have the ability and confidence to say "NO" to unwanted peer pressure We make our children's classes fun and exciting, so your child can't wait to come back to the next class.

ARE THERE TOURNAMENTS?

There are some tournaments that we attend. We concentrate on grappling/wrestling. We like to do more in-house tournaments to which we invite other schools to make the day competitive, fun and exciting. At all of our events, family and friends are always welcome. It is always the students' choice whether they compete in any tournament.
